Election 2022: See who are the pre-candidates for the presidency of the Republic
On October 2, the Brazilians will go to the polls to decide on their representatives for next year. In addition to state and federal deputies, senators and governors, the date will mark the choice of the next president of the republic.
So far, 12 names are vying for the post, with a four-year term and the possibility of re-election.
Candidates will be officially announced by August 5th, the deadline for the parties and federations to hold their conference. Until then, the names will be considered as pre-candidates.
Meet all the candidates below:
Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT)
Lula will run in her sixth presidential election. Defeated in 1989, 1994 and 1998, PT was re-elected in the second round in 2002 and re-elected in the second round four years later. A metallurgist and union leader, the former president was a federal deputy in Sao Paulo for a term before his national invasion. He even started pre-campaigning to return to office in the 2018 election, when he was in prison after being convicted in the context of Operation Lava Jato. Next,

Zaire Balsonaro (PL)
Candidate for re-election, President Bolsonaro will run in the 2022 election for his tenth party, the PL. Elected to a majority position for the first time in 2018, when he won the dispute for Planelto, he began a career as a federal deputy in Rio de Janeiro, a position he held from 1990 to 2018. Prior to that, he was a councilor in the capital, Rio de Janeiro, for two years.

Ciro Gomes (PDT)
In his fourth attempt to become president of the republic, Ciro began his political career as state deputy, before being elected mayor of the capital, Fortaleza, and then governor of the state. He was a minister in the Itamar Franco (Fajanda) and Lula (National Solidarity) governments and was a federal deputy.
Ciro Gomez, a lawyer and university professor, was born in Pindamanhangaba (SP), a father of four and married to Gisele Bezera.
Simon Tebet (MDB)
Simon Tebet, the Republic’s first-term senator, began his political career in 2002, when he was elected state deputy to Mato Grosso do Sule. He was mayor for two terms in the city of Tres Lagos, from which he went on to become deputy governor of the state.
A lawyer and law professor, she is married to Tebet State Deputy Eduardo Rocha and is the mother of two daughters.
Andre Jonas (forward)
Elected federal deputy for Minas Gerais in 2018, Andre Jonas went through two teams (PT and PSC) before joining his current team. He ran for mayor of Ituivata in 2016, where he was born.
Lawyer, he gained notoriety and a huge following on social media during the truck drivers’ strike in 2018.
Luciano Beaver (Union Brazil)
Luciano Beaver, federal deputy of Pernambuco and national president of Unio Brasil, was vice-president of the Chamber of Deputies between 2019 and 2021. .
Born in Recife, he was a businessman and the director of Sport, a football club based in the capital of Pernambuco. Beaver Katrina is married to Petribu Beaver and father of three children.
Felipe D’Avila (new)
A newcomer to the election, Luiz Felipe D’Avila is a political scientist and a master of public administration. He founded the Center for Political Leadership (CLP) 14 years ago.
Through Paulista and engineer training, he married the father of two children and Anna Maria Diniz.
Jose Maria Email (DC)
In his sixth presidential campaign, Emel served as federal deputy for three terms representing the state of S সাo Paulo between 1986 and 1995. He has run for mayor of So Paulo four times.
Lawyer and born in Porto Alegre, he married Isola Selbach Emel and has two children.
Vera Lucia (PSTU)
The co-founder of PSTU, the party for which he is running for the presidency for the second time, also ran for mayor of Vera Lucia Sao Paulo and Aracaju and Sergei Sarkar, as well as deputies for a vacant position in the chamber.
A graduate in social sciences and born in Inaza, Pernambuco, Vera Lucia was the director of Central Unica dos Trabalhadors and director of the National Federation of Textile Workers.
Leonardo Pericles (UP)
Leonardo Pericles was the president and one of the founders of popular unity, the legend he is running for.
An electronics technician and machine maintenance mechanic, he was one of the leaders in the movement against the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He is from Belo Horizonte.
Pablo Mercal (facility)
In his first election campaign, Pablo Marcel will also be the first professional candidate for the presidency of the Republic.
Born in Goiania, married and the father of four children, Marcel has a law degree, is an entrepreneur and is digitally influential. He has millions of followers on social media.
Sophia Manzano (PCB)
Sofia Manzano, a member of the PCB since 1989 in her second election – in 2014, she was the Vice Presidential candidate on the ticket of her co-religionist Mauro Yasir.
Manzano, a former president of the Communist Youth Union (UGC), was born in Sওo Paulo and taught at the State University of Southwest Bahia (UESB). Economist and master of economic development, she is married and the mother of one child.
