Competitors on the black horses of the College Soccer Playoff: One team from each Power Five conference to watch in 2022

When the spring season began in 2021, there would be no way to imagine that Michigan and Cincinnati would be on the College Soccer Playoff stadium with Clemson and Oklahoma at home. College football always gives us the unexpected, but it is not too late to sing our shots with our rivals on this season’s black CFP horses.

To reduce the number of “dark horse” teams, we exclude 14 teams with a chance of 50-1 or more including Alabama, Notre Dame, Utah and a few other options. Don’t worry, this still leaves more than 50 teams vying for positions.

Here are the teams from each of the Power Five conferences that team up with the black horse that will amaze the world and create a garden.

The Wolf Pack has been on the verge of good and bad for the past decade. Dave Doeren’s team has won between seven and nine games in all but one season since 2014, plus 9-3 years in 2021 which would have put the game in jeopardy.

Now, North Carolina State is the only team in the postseason top 15 to sit in the top 15 in the playoffs. In particular, the Wolf Pack No. 5 on restoration defense, but All-ACC quarterback Devin Leary will make sure the offense continues.

NC State was about to compete in the 2021 conference race but it was only a matter of time. Draw a parallel line on the Clemson campaign on Sept. 30 – can select ACC Atlantic.

Penn State is a quarterback, again. Unlike last season, Nittany’s lions have more than one convener in the same room to raise the floor.

Sean Clifford is back for another chance to rewrite Penn State after the injury season. However, all eyes will be on the new Drew Allar, No. 1 quarterback and No. 3rd overall prospect in the Top247 rankings. In addition, the Christian Veilleux repository has shown some encouraging signs.

Penn State has made a solid defensive record and should continue to lose two star defense players in the second round of the playoffs. However, the in-depth list of options for the quarterback could be what Penn State ultimately needs to get into the game list.

The Bears are defending the Big 12 champions, but their 60-1 chances still push them out of the top 15 of national competition. Despite losing six players in the NFL Draft, Baylor still has an impressive image to make his first College Soccer Playoff.

Baylor has excellent Big 12 squares on both sides of the ball with four frustrated players and defenders each. The Bears also added Tulsa midfielder Jaxon Player to strengthen the position near the future of the NFL Draft picking Siaki Ika on the nose.

The big question about Baylor taking the step comes at a quarterback. The Bears raised Blake Shapen to take over after Gerry Bohanon led the most successful team in program history. While Bohanon was strong, Shapen brings a new level that could be useful with Oklahoma and BYU on the list.

The three teams with the best chance of playing all are within 50-1, so going to the Pac-12 forced us to develop talent. In the end, it took us six years back to find one of the conference programs with a playoff look in its name.

Washington was 4-8 last season, but the external disaster that occurred during Jimmy Lake season covered what has become one of the most consistent college football programs. The case was very serious, but new coach Kalen DeBoer has made strong strides wherever he has coached. If security is not low, there are two options.

The Huskies are number one. 17 nationally talented in 2021, in Michigan, Penn State and Florida State. DeBoer added to the 25-man international transfer squad, including Indiana quarterback Michael Penix and four talented players. Switching ingredients are going to Seattle.

Obviously, getting a black horse in the SEC takes up a little extra space with many simple opponents in the field. If there is a team ready to destroy another Saturday fall, Sam Pittman’s Hogs is that team.

The Razorbacks built on a strong start with a 9-4 campaign and a win over Penn State in the Outback Bowl. Arkansas won five of their last six games, and wasted no time. 2 Alabama with 7 points.

A number of key points have gone to the NFL, but quarterback KJ Jefferson should continue to grow behind the offensive line which should be the best. The Razorbacks host Cincinnati, South Carolina and Texas A&M in the first four weeks of the Alabama season. We know what to expect in a hurry.

Rich Strike Bets

On Saturday, Rich Strike removed the biggest frustration in the Kentucky Derby since 1913. Disruption makes the game better, so we decided to combine a number of underdog betting strategies that matched or surpassed the 80-1 Rich Strike chance to win both.

Kentucky (125-1): Hey Will Levis, I want to follow Chris Trapasso’s approach — early 2023 mocking you as No. 1 choice? I just got the thing. Kentucky won 10 games last year and returned to star Chris Rodriguez next to Levis. It’s always a good defense on the other side and a possible plan that leads to a fight against Georgia on Nov. 18, why not be a cat?

BYU (200-1): At BYU level in North Carolina, Iowa State and UCLA I feel crazy, but I’m not a critic. The Cougars have an impressive plan with Baylor, Oregon, Notre Dame and Arkansas on the docket. BYU also brings in a number of stars from the exciting team, including quarterback Jaren Hall and host Puka Nacua. The right mix of talent and opportunity exists, especially in the potentially turbulent 2022 season.

Houston (300-1): Like BYU, the Cougars technically are not on our list for being the Fifth Team. But with Cincinnati promoting nine NFL players, Houston could be a smart bet to create a College Soccer Playoff stadium from the AAC. UH went 12-2 and defeated Auburn in the Birmingham Bowl, beating quarterback Clayton Tune and receiver Nathaniel Dell. With UTSA and Texas Tech on a non-compliant slate, there will be opportunities to create incentives.
